What We Do?
We do nothing great. We make sure those who would want to study don’t have to stay home. In very simple words its like paying school fees on behalf of those who couldn’t do it all by themselves. The very first thing we do is we locate children who are not going to school because of financial problems. We also search for students who left their studies in the middle as they couldn’t afford it or if they had to for other reasons. Then we approach them and their families. We inform them about our intentions and objectives that we would like to help their children get education. After their parents accept our proposal we select that child. But after the selection of the child we are not limited to just paying school fees. We make sure that our time, money and efforts are paying and the children are getting best from it. For that we frequently consult with teachers and parents about the children’s progress. How he/she is performing. Where he/she is week and what are his/her good points. We have meetings with the children as well where we try to understand them, their problems if any. We keep an eye on how the children progresses as time passes for that we keep the detailed records of their tests and exam results. We do take exams if we find it necessary. The child has to give his/her best otherwise we would be left with no option other than giving chance to some one else because there are hundreds other who are in need as well.
The very first thing that we do is we select children that we are to support. It is one of the most difficult jobs that we have to do. Who to select as there are hundreds who are in need and we have our own limitations. Therefore need alone should not be the determining factor.
Few major Selection Criteria are:
Age, Need assessment by which we make sure that he/she really needs our support, Worthiness by which we make sure that it is worth to have him/her study and Family Structure of the child.
Selection of children
• Collect information about the children through field visits and reports.
• Cross checking and verification of information for authenticity.
• Referred by recognized organizations and individuals.
• Making announcement for sponsorship & collecting sponsorship confirmation forms.
Selection of School
We follow two policies regarding the selection of school where the children are supposed to study.
Same School
In a case when a child is already studying in a particular school but is finding hard to continue due to financial problems we just make sure he/she continues in the same school.
New School
In cases where the child has never joined a school or has left the school for a long time we select a new school.
Criteria
Quality
The quality of education that the school is supposed to deliver is the prime factor in determining the school. We evaluate the schools performance through the years.
Convenience
While selecting a school we consider the locality where the children live. We prefer school which is within easy reach of the child. But we do not compromise quality for mere convenience.
Approaching a School
• We visit the school giving prior information.
• We provide detail information regarding the visit and our objectives
• Presenting documents relating to child- his/her previous academic reports if any
• Request the school to wave admission and other fees fully if possible otherwise a fixed percentage.
Monitoring Childs progress
• Revaluation of child’s progress / Activity - Monthly / Every Two Months
• Consultation with Teachers / Grade Teacher / Principal - Monthly
• Consultation with Parents if necessary
• Reviewing Test / Exam results, report cards or taking tests by ourselves
• Behavioral Monitoring
